Scientific library of the Kazakh national pedagogical university named after Abai one of the largest university libraries of the country. Library is organized in 1928, along with educational institution.
Now the scientific and information, educational and cultural center for students, professorial, educational and auxiliary structures providing with literature and information resources educational and scientific processes.
Scientific library of KAZNPU named after Abai – the member of Association of libraries of higher education institutions of Kazakhstan, the member of International Federation of Library Associations and institutions (IFLA), the methodical center for libraries of the humanitarian organizations of education giving the higher and professional education of the city of Almaty and Almaty region.
The fund of library makes more than 1 700 000 copies of books. Where concentrated are textbooks, training manuals, monographs, remarkable samples of fiction. Also in library the richest fund of the world fiction and rare editions of the 18th century – the beginning of the 20th century in foreign languages is brought together.
Annually the library receives more than 30 000 copies of literature and 400 names of periodicals.
Library users are served on 3 subscriptions and in 7 reading rooms.
Contracts with other libraries of Almaty on ILL (inter-library loans) are signed.
Now the library works according to the "IRBIS" program (the Russian automated library information system). Processes of completing, cataloguing, information service of readers are automated.
The electronic library containing full text databases is offered to users: textbooks and manuals, the educational and methodical complexes for education (EMCE), abstracts and dissertations, articles from various periodicals. Besides, there are multimedia educational editions of our teachers placed on personal computers which are the center of electronic library.
The library is equipped with the modern computer equipment.
The electronic catalog contains more than 90 000 entries, retrospective conversion of fund of library continues.
In library digitization of the only, low-copy, rare literature is daily carried out. Work on creation of a repository by scanning of periodicals is continued. The service EDD (electronic delivery of documents) through e-mail is provided.
Readers of library have an opportunity to use global information network Internet, have access to external electronic resources: to domestic full text databases of KAZNEB (Kazakhstan national electronic library), RIEL (Republican Interuniversity Electronic Library) where more than 80 Russian and foreign bases are provided. Besides users of scientific library use popular foreign bases (Thompson, Shpringer, ELSEVIER, EBSCO, Oxford) and the Russian bases (the electronic and library system of publishing house Lan, IPRbooks, Polpred). On the basis of the contract in Lan publishing house and IPRbooks library workers provide all series of Bulletins of the university for their inclusion in the EBS catalog.

Works of leading experts of scientific library on problems of library science are published in various library editions of Kazakhstan and the neighboring countries.
